DNO blocking rule follow-up

Wonder what’s happening with the FCC’s rule on DNO blocking? This article will bring you up to date. Let’s have a look.

DNO blocking rule

On February 27, 2025, the Commission adopted a new rule to require voice service providers to perform DNO blocking.

The rule will become effective 90 days after publication of a notice of Office of Management and Budget (OMB) approval in the Federal Register. OMB review is required by the Paperwork Reduction Act (PPA).

On April 1, 2025, the Commission published a notice and request for comments on the information collection requirements of the DNO blocking rule. Note that the comments requested are only about information collection, not the rule itself.

PPA comments are due on or before Monday, June 2, 2025.

The OMB will perform its PPA review of the information collection aspects of the rule and publish its decision in the Federal Register. If approved, then the DNO blocking rule will take effect 90 days after this publication date.
