Robocall trends in September 2024

Here’s a quick review of robocall trends through September 2024.

The source data is from YouMail’s Robocall Index, a widely followed measure of robocall activity in the U.S.

Overall robocalls level in September

Figure 1 shows that overall robocalls were up slightly, just 0.6%, in September—let’s call it level.

The dashed green line shows that robocalls over this date range have a slight upward trend.

The bar chart at the bottom of Figure 1 compares robocalls in each month with the same month in 2023. Robocalls in September 2024 were up 5% from September 2023. This is the first month in 2024 in which robocalls were up from the same month in 2023.

Scam robocalls level in September

Scam robocalls were up slightly, also 0.6%, in September 2024, as seen in Figure 2. As with overall robocalls, we’ll call it level.

The dashed green line shows that scam robocalls are now on a downward trend from the high levels in April through June 2024.

The bar chart at the bottom of Figure 2 shows that scam robocalls in September 2024 were 45% lower than September 2023. Scam robocalls have been lower each month in 2024 versus the same month in 2023.
