Robocall mitigation deadlines and progress
The FCC announced compliance deadlines for providers to update their certification filing and robocall mitigation plan in the Robocall Mitigation Database (RMD). In this article, we review the requirements and progress we’ve observed so far.
Requirements
We previously reported that the FCC announced compliance deadlines for providers to update their RMD certification filings. These deadlines include the following:
- Update RMD certification filing and robocall mitigation plan by February 26, 2024.
- Refuse traffic received directly from any provider not listed in the RMD by May 28, 2024.
Progress
We noticed updated RMD filings to satisfy the new requirements starting January 24, 2024. In Figure 1, we show the percentage of active RMD filings updated since that date, measured on April 1 and again on April 24, for all RMD filers and for U.S.-based filers.
This figure shows some progress in providers updating their RMD filings, but there seems to be many providers who have not yet updated their RMD filing and plan.
