Robocall trends in October 2023

Here’s a quick review of robocall trends through October 2023.

The source data is from YouMail’s Robocall Index, a widely followed measure of robocall activity in the U.S.

Overall robocalls up in October

Figure 1 shows that overall robocalls were up 7.9% in October. However, the dashed green line shows that the linear trend for robocalls over this date range is still declining.

The bar chart at the bottom of Figure 1 compares robocalls in each month with the same month in 2022. Every month in 2023 has had more robocalls than the same month in 2022. However, in October 2023 robocalls were only slightly higher than in October 2022.

Figure 2 shows that scam robocalls continued an upward trend in October with a 7.9% increase from September. Scam robocalls in October were the highest month in 2023.

The bar chart at the bottom of Figure 2 shows that scam robocalls in October 2023 were about the same level as in October 2022.

The monthly robocall numbers have been volatile, jumping up and down from month to month. However, we continue to see a general trend where overall robocalls are dropping while scam robocalls are trending upward.
