Call acceptance compliance deadline arrives
The FCC’s call acceptance compliance deadline has arrived. Let’s have a look.
Compliance dates for the updated rules were announced in the Federal Register on January 25, 2024. We reviewed these requirements in a previous blog post, Compliance dates announced for updated SHAKEN rules.
This announcement set the compliance deadline for the intermediate and voice service provider obligations for May 24, 2024.
These rules require intermediate and voice service providers to accept traffic directly from an upstream provider only if that provider has a filing in the Robocall Mitigation Database and that filing has not been de-listed from an enforcement action.
This requirement was first established on April 11, 2023, for accepting traffic directly from gateway providers. On May 24, 2024, this requirement is extended to receiving traffic directly from all providers, including:
- Domestic voice service providers
- Foreign providers
- Gateway providers
- Non-gateway intermediate providers.
The rule includes public safety safeguards to prevent blocking emergency calls to 911 and from public safety answering points and government emergency numbers.
