Prior to 2013, ACN had been using two independent TransNexus least cost routing platforms, one in North America and another in Europe, with each running on bare metal hardware. ACN’s goal in 2013 was to centralize the routing management of the two TransNexus platforms while simultaneously virtualizing the entire system.

The Challenge

Alteva needed a dynamic LCR engine that could be updated in real time and ensure that every route was profitable.

Result

Alteva made the decision to switch to TransNexus’s next generation least cost routing solution, utilizing NexOSS software and OSPrey route servers. NexOSS is a centralized application for provisioning routes and rating Call Detail Records (CDRs). With this solution, least cost routing configurations are replicated from NexOSS to OSPrey. Alteva’s Sonus softswitch then routes calls to OSPrey, which determines the least cost routing and then send a SIP invite back to the switch with lowest cost routing instructions. By keeping the LCR table on a routing server, rather than directly on the switch, Alteva can now dynamically update multiple routing tables with millions of possible no loss routes.

NexOSS software was designed with the issues facing today’s VoIP carriers in mind. With a built-in number portability module and the ability to host the North American Number Portability Database (NPAC), NexOSS allows for LRN based routing, to ensure proper and up-to-date routes are available for all calls.

The Challenge

Appia began to put together a new network designed to consolidate the hosted voice and SIP trunking services. “We wanted to increase our reliability. We wanted to increase our security, and we wanted to move where we had inter-session information” said Jay Cox, Director of Telecommunications Management at Appia.

Result

Appia selected the TransNexus solution for centralized network management of their hosted VoIP and SIP trunking services. In the new system, the Acme Packet SBC works as a border element, and all inbound and outbound traffic flows through it. Switching functionality is handled by a custom feature server platform, developed by Appia, that manages telephone numbers and customer features. The TransNexus software completes the solution with dynamic least cost routing and quality of service routing, traffic and quality of service reporting, fraud detection, and least cost routing.
